Children of the Sun – Meet the Cast

This week we kicked off rehearsals for our co-production with the Abbey Theatre of Hilary Fannin’s radical adaptation of Maxim Gorky’s Children of the Sun. We are thrilled to announce our fantastic cast:

The creative team include set designer Sarah Bacon, costume designer Sorcha Ní Fhloinn, lighting designer Sarah Jane Shiels, and sound designer/composer Mel Mercier. The director is Rough Magic’s Lynne Parker.

Children of the Sun is the story of how a small family, their collection of friends and one eccentric stranger distract, entertain and enrage each other at a moment of crisis. Meanwhile, unseen beyond their fragile walls, their world is being reshaped by unstoppable forces. Children of the Sun was commissioned by Rough Magic as part of its COMPASS new writing programme and will receive its world premiere on the Abbey Theatre stage in April. While the play is based on the original text by Gorky, this adaptation promises to be an explosively innovative reimagining.

We are so delighted to be working with our partners at the Abbey on this exciting new play. Children of the Sun will run from 13th April to 11th May 2024.
